All holding forces have been measured under ideal conditions and may vary in practice.
Neodymium rod magnet Ø3 x 9 mm, grade N48 with NiCuNi coating. Adhesive force approx. 540 g.
Thin and light: suitable for model making, displays, sensors, and installation in small holes and tubes. The rod shape fits into a drilled hole or tube and attracts with its flat end. In jewelry, only use when covered and not against the skin: the NiCuNi layer contains nickel. Due to the low adhesive force, it is not suitable for doors or heavier components; choose a thicker size for those. Which rod magnet should you choose? Need to calculate how many you need? Use the Magnet Advisor.
The adhesive force is measured under ideal conditions on a flat steel plate; in practice, the actual adhesive force is lower. Read how adhesive force is determined.
Orders placed and paid for on business days before 16:00 will be shipped the same business day if in stock. Free shipping within the Netherlands on orders from €45. Consumers have a 30-day reflection period.
Magnets are not toys and should be kept out of the reach of children. Keep strong magnets away from pacemakers, electronics, and bank cards. Small magnets can be swallowed; seek medical help immediately if swallowed.
According to the declarations of conformity provided by the manufacturer, this product complies with the current European RoHS Directive and REACH Regulation.

Neodymium magnets are very powerful and can bounce off each other and/or iron objects at high speed. The force increases as the magnet gets larger, which also increases the risk of breakage. Two of the larger magnets in our range are powerful enough to break fingers or at least cause a few large blisters.
Therefore, wear work gloves and keep magnets away from children. Also, keep Neodymium (NdFeB) magnets at a safe distance from people with pacemakers. This also applies to electronic devices and payment cards.
Neodymium magnets are still the most powerful magnets available today. Our super-strong magnets also remain magnetic virtually indefinitely, provided they are not exposed to the maximum operating temperature or are used with opposite poles.
The letters and numbers in the material coding have the following meaning: The N stands for Neodymium, the subsequent digits indicate the maximum magnetic energy expressed in MgOe. If there are no further letters after this, the magnet can be used up to 80 degrees Celsius.
If there are still letters behind it, it can reach a higher temperature.
We indicate adhesive force in grams or kilograms because this appeals to more people than Newton. The indicated force is measured perpendicular to the magnet. The adhesive force is the force required to pull a smooth, flat steel object (ST37) at least 10 millimeters thick from the magnet in question.
This force quickly diminishes when, for example, there's a gap or layer of paint between the magnet and the object. Even half a millimeter can reduce the force by half. A steel alloy or a rough surface also significantly reduces the holding force.
As mentioned, the direction of the adhesive force is perpendicular to the magnet, but the shear force is much smaller and also depends on the friction between the magnet and the object.
